January started with lots of snow and rapidly decreasing temperatures even down in South Finland. Around the middle of this month the weather changed, when the wind turned, and it brought rain and plus degrees. Luckily warm winter days are a rarity in Northern Finland and the snow should stick around for a while still. The bees are extremely sensitive to any disturbances during their winter cluster phase, so any heavy snowfall or unwanted guests are a danger to their required peace. Therefore, the beekeeper is also continuing control check-ups during the winter period.
